Anniversary of the Fall of Fascism (San Marino)

The Anniversary of the Fall of Fascism is a public holiday in the Republic of San Marino, and it is observed on July 28 each year. The holiday commemorates the fall of the Sammarinese Fascist Party in 1943.

San Marino is a European microstate and a landlocked country surrounded by Italy, and it is the smallest republic in the world, with a population of about 33,000.

In 1923, Giuliano Gozi founded the Sammarinese Fascist Party and modeled it on the National Fascist Party in Italy. The party stuck closely to Italian Fascism and used violence and intimidation against opponents.

Giuliano Gozi became the first Fascist Captain Regent in April 1923 and changed the party to the only legal party in San Marino in 1926 after banning other parties. As the party's founder, Giuliano Gozi held the position of Captain Regent 5 times. He was the "de facto" leader of the country from 1923 to 1943, when World War II ended.
