When working with a word document, other than changing the paragraph and line spacing, you also can change the spacing between letters and words. You can change the letter spacing in two ways: Expanded or Condensed. Please see the steps below for details:
Step 1: Select the contents you want to increase (or decrease) the letter spacing;
Step 2: Click the "Home" tab from the ribbon;
Step 3: Click the Font Dialog Box Launcher in the corner of the "Font" section;
Step 4: Click the "Advanced" tab in the "Font" dialog box;
Step 5: In the "Spacing" box, select "Expanded" if you want to increase the spacing between letters, or select "Condensed" if you want to decrease the spacing, then type the value you want to expand or condense.
Step 6: Click "OK" at the bottom to finish. The following is the comparison when the spacing is expanded to 1.5 pt.
Please refer to how to remove extra spaces in word to change the spacing between words only.
Step 7: The following is the results when the spacing is condensed with 80% scale.
Great topic. I need to spend some time learning more or understanding more.
Thanks for excellent info I was looking for this information.
Good post. I definitely appreciate this website.
Keep it up!
you have given letter spacing and not between words in a line in word document .
To change the spaces between words only, please use ctrl+h, and replace with one space with 2 or more spaces, or please refer to Change Spaces between Words in Word,thank you!
I spent an excessive amount of time trying to reduce the space between words until I found your article then it was not a problem. Thank you for the information.

Along similar lines, in Word, how can I reduce the amount of space a space between words takes up?
did you try use "find and replace (or shortcut ctrl+H)", then type 2 spaces in the first box and type one space in the second box, then replace all a couple of times. Please check here (https://excelnotes.com/remove-extra-spaces-in-a-word-file/) to get rid of extra spaces in a word file. Thank you!
Thank YOU for replying, and so quickly! My problem is not replacing two spaces with one; instead, it's trying to reduce the size of SINGLE spaces (like with a "half-space"; if that's even possible / available). i.e., trying to squeeze more characters onto the same line.
Please try below: in step 5, select "Condensed", then select a percentage less 100% (e.g., 80%), more letters will fit in one line. But the font size looks smaller. See newly added pictures in step 7. Thank you!
