Youth Day is a public holiday in Morocco, observed on August 21 each year.
Youth Day commemorates the Moroccan people's efforts against French colonial rule in achieving independence, especially Morocco's youth. The holiday was first celebrated on July 9, the birthday of crown prince Moulay Hassan, who became the King of Morocco in 1961. When Mohammed VI became the King of Morocco in 1999, the celebration moved to August 21, King's birthday.
