Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is a public holiday in Israel. It is the holiest day of the year and it is observed on the 10th day of the month of Tishrei in the Jewish calendar.
Yom Kippur is a day of prayer and fasting, so the day before is set aside for eating and preparing for this holy day. It is a holiday to devote with hearts and minds to the relationship with the Divine to purify ourselves and clean all the sins. Other than fasting during the holiday, people do not wear leather shoes and gold jewellery.
