First Day of Sukkot

The First Day of Sukkot, also known as the Festival of Shelters or Feast of Tabernacles, is a public holiday in Israel, and it is observed on the 15th day of the Tishrei month, which is the 7th month in the Jewish calendar.

Sukkot is one of the Three Pilgrimage Festivals (Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot) which the Israelites were required to perform a pilgrimage to the Temple. Sukkot is an agricultural festival and it marks the end of harvest time.

Sukkot is the hut-like structure that farmers would live in during harvesting. It is also the type of fragile temporary dwellings in which the Israelites dwelt during their 40 years of travel in the desert after the Exodus from slavery in Egypt.

Sukkot festival lasts seven days in the Land of Israel, but only the first day of Sukkot is a public holiday.
