Workers' Memorial Day (Gibraltar)

Workers' Memorial Day is a public holiday in Gibraltar, and it is observed on April 28 each year. The holiday commemorates those who lost their lives, were seriously injured at work or whose lives had been negatively affected by the work.

On April 28, 1970, the Occupational Safety and Health Act was into effect, which sets out the rights and duties in the workplace. A year later, the Department of Labor in the United States formed the regulatory agency of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which has the federal visitorial powers to inspect safety in the workplaces. As a result, the Workers' Memorial Day celebration day was chosen on April 28.

The holiday first began in North America in 1989, and it has now become an internal holiday celebrated in many countries. The holiday is a great opportunity for people to revisit and prevent possible incidents, as well as a good chance to improve workplace safety.
