Women's Day (Tunisia)

Women's Day is a public holiday in Tunisia, and it is observed on August 13 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary of the Code of Personal Status adopted in Tunisia in 1956.

The Code of Personal Status is a series of Tunisian laws trying to ensure equal rights for men and women in several areas. The Code was adopted on August 13, 1956 by Habib Bourguiba, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tunisia at that time, and he became the President of the Republic of Tunisia.

The Code took effect on January 1, 1957, which had women have equal rights as men in society by emphasizing that all males and females are equal before the law without any discrimination. The most notable laws in the Code include abolishing polygamy, the minimum marriage age for men and women, and the judicial procedure for divorce.
