Ochi Day is a public holiday in Greece and Cyprus, and it is observed on October 28 each year. The holiday commemorates the anniversary when Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas rejected the Italian government's ultimatum in 1940.
On October 28, 1940, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini demanded Greece allow the Axis forces to enter Greek territory, or otherwise Greece would face war. Greek Prime Metaxas rejected the ultimatum, and on the same day, Italian troops invaded Greece, which is the beginning of the Greco-Italian War.
