St. Patrick's Day (Montserrat)

St. Patrick's Day is a public holiday in Montserrat, and it is observed on March 17 each year. The holiday is a holiday in memory of Saint Patrick, a fifth-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland. He brought Christianity to Irish people in the fifth century and is considered the founder of Christianity in Ireland.

The Irish pirates captured him when he was about 16, and brought him to Ireland as a slave taking care of sheep. He had a dream from God asking him to leave Ireland when he was 22. He managed to run away from Ireland and reunited with families in Britain.

A few years after, he had a vision asking him to go back to Ireland, and he returned as a Christian missionary after studying for the priesthood. He spent 40 years in Ireland and converted all people there, and he died on March 17, 461.

Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. Christopher Columbus first passed the island in 1493 during his second voyage. About 100 years after, Irishmen from Saint Kitts started to settle in Montserrat and also brought the Irish culture and custom. In the late 1660s, the British Empire occupied the island.

Saint Patrick's Day is a holiday with green color, and it is customary to wear green clothing or green accessories.
