St. Martin's Day

St. Martin's Day, also known as the Funeral of Saint Martin, is a public holiday in many places around the world, and it is observed on November 11 each year.

St. Martin's Day celebrates Saint Martin of Tours, who was born in Hungary and died on November 8, 397. He was a soldier in the Roman army, and became one of the most recognizable Christian saints in a French town.

The most notable of his saintly acts was that he used his military sword and cut his cloak into half on a cold winter night, and shared it with a beggar. The beggar was later revealed as Jesus in his dream.

His feast day is November 11 in the Catholic Church, and November 12 in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
