Songkran

Songkran is a national holiday in Thailand, and it is observed on April 13 each year, but the holiday lasts 3 days from April 13 to April 15.

Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year and it is one of the most important festivals in Thailand. Songkran means "movement" in Sanskrit, a classical language of South Asia, and it derives from the movement of the sun from one position to another position.

The holiday is the time for families and friends to gather together to show respects to elders, and to visit temples for prayer and offering.

The holiday is also known as the water festival. Throwing of water to each other is a popular tradition in the annual celebration. People believe splashing water will drive bad luck away and bring good luck.
