Saint Nicholas of Flüe Day

Saint Nicholas of Flüe Day is a public holiday in the canton of Obwalden, Switzerland and it is observed on September 25 each year.

Saint Nicholas of Flüe was a Swiss hermit who is the patron saint of Switzerland. He was born in 1417 and married at age of 30 to a farmer's daughter.

In 1467, he left families and set himself up as a hermit when he was 50 years old and gained a reputation for his wisdom and piety. In 1481, he settled the disputes between cantons and prevented a civil war. He died on March 21, 1487. His feast day is March 21 in the Roman Catholic Church, but it is September 25 in Switzerland and Germany.
