Restoration Day

Restoration Day is a public holiday in the canton of Geneva, Switzerland and it is observed on December 31 each year. The holiday commemorates the restoration of the Republic of Geneva in 1813. During the French Revolution period, France annexed Geneva and its surrounding territory in 1798.

In the fall of 1813, Napoleon's fall appeared imminent. The Napoleonic army left Geneva on December 30, 1813, and the Republic of Geneva was restored the day after.
