Nyepi, also known as Balinese New Year, is a national holiday in Indonesia, and it is observed on the first day of Kadasa month according to the Balinese calendar.
Nyepi is a day strictly reserved for self-reflection for the Balinese, and it is also known as the Bali day of silence. People follow the Nyepi Rituals and expect a day of absolute silence: no fire or light, no working, no traveling, and no entertainment. Because of these local rules, streets, and roads are almost empty.
