National Sovereignty and Children's Day

National Sovereignty and Children's Day is a public holiday in Turkey on April 23 each year. The holiday commemorates the foundation of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, founded on April 23, 1920. National Sovereignty and Children's Day is a festival dedicated to children.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, presented April 23 to children to emphasize that they are successors of the future, and in 1921, April 23 was proclaimed a national holiday.

During the holiday, the children will send their representatives to replace officials and take seats in the Turkish Parliament. They also sign executive orders relating to educational and environmental policies and symbolically govern the country for one day.
