Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa was the first emir of Bahrain from 1961 until he died in 1999. He succeeded his father as emir in November 1961 and was installed on December 16, 1961.
During his reign, Bahrain gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1971, and the economy grew into a modern nation, which gained respect from the people of Bahrain.
