Mother's and Children's Day is a public holiday in Mongolia on June 1 each year. The holiday is in honor of mothers and children and to show appreciation for mothers and children.
Although the holiday is for both mothers and children, the celebrations focus far more on children than the mothers. Mongolia has a high percentage of children. According to the census, over one-quarter of them are under 14, and children all look forward to this holiday. It is also a holiday to show respect to mothers.
