Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival, is a public holiday in China and South Asia and is observed on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month of the traditional Chinese calendar, which is a lunisolar calendar and changes each year in the Gregorian calendar.
Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important festivals dating back 3,000 years when the emperors worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests. It became popular in the Song Dynasty (960 to 1279). The moon is believed as the brightest and roundest on this day. The full moon signifies the reunion of people in Chinese culture, so the holiday is the most important day for a family union.
Mooncakes are the traditional food during the festival, and they are offered by friends or served at family gatherings while celebrating the festival.
