Liberation Day (Netherlands)

Liberation Day is a public holiday in the Netherlands observed on May 5 each year.

Liberation Day marks the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II. The Netherlands was invaded and occupied by Nazi German in 1940; even the country declared neutrality. In 1944, most of the south was liberated, and on May 5, 1945, the whole country was liberated.
