Independence Manifesto Day is a public holiday in Morocco on January 11 yearly. The holiday commemorates when the public proclamation demanding an end to colonialism and the reinstatement of Morocco's independence was signed on January 11, 1944.
Although the proclamation was sent to France in 1944, independence was not achieved immediately. The Moroccan struggle for independence became increasingly violent in the late 1940s and early 1950s after the political efforts failed. In 1955, Muhammad V successfully negotiated to restore independence gradually, and on March 2, 1956, Morocco gained full independence.
