Heir to the Throne's Birthday (Tuvalu)

Heir to the Throne's Birthday is a public holiday in Tuvalu, and it is observed on the second Monday in November each year. The holiday celebrates the birthday of Charles, Prince of Wales.

Tuvalu, previously known as the Ellice Islands, is an island country in the Pacific Ocean. People began to inhabit the islands about 3000 years ago. Spanish navigator Álvaro de Mendaña became the first European sighting of the archipelago in 1568. Tuvalu became a British protectorate in 1892 and then part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands colony from 1916 to 1975. Because of this history, many British holidays are celebrated in Tuvalu, including Heir to the Throne's Birthday.

Charles is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and the heir apparent to the British throne. He was born on November 14, 1948. Charles has been heir apparent since 1952 and is the longest-serving heir in British history. As Prince of Wales, Charles undertakes official duties on behalf of the Queen.
