Full Moon Day of Tazaungmon, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a public holiday in Myanmar, and it is observed on the full moon of the month of Tazaungmon, the eighth month of the traditional Burmese calendar.
Full Moon Day of Tazaungmon marks the end of the rainy season and the start of the winter. It also marks the end of Kathina season, a time of giving. People bring donations, such as robes, basic utensils, food, etc., to temples to express gratitude to monks.
During the full moon day of Tazaungmon, robe-weaving competitions are held throughout the country to commemorate the story of Buddha. The mother of Buddha spent the whole night weaving yellow robes for him, and his aunt continued the tradition annually.
