Fathers' Day is a holiday in honor of fatherhood and paternal bonds. People celebrate Fathers' Day in different forms and on different days around the world. The original celebration of Father's Day has been recognized in some way for centuries, while the first modern Father's Day was celebrated in 1910, a few years after Mother's Day was first celebrated in the United States.
Sonora Smart Dodd was known as the Mother of Father's Day. Inspired by Anna Jarvis's effort to establish Mothers' Day after hearing a sermon in a church, Dodd began trying to make Father's Day a recognized holiday in 1909. The celebration was gradually adopted by other countries.
