Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, is a gazetted holiday in India and Bangladesh, and it is the tenth-day celebration of the Hindu deity Durga Puja celebrations.
Durga Puja celebrates the victory of the goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. It is a major festival of Hinduism and holds for 10 days in the month of Ashvina of the Hindu calendar, which falls in September and October in the Gregorian calendar.
