Canterbury Anniversary Day is a public holiday in the northern and central areas of Canterbury Region, New Zealand, and it is observed on the second Friday following the first Tuesday of November.
South Canterbury Anniversary Day was celebrated in the southern part of the Canterbury Region.
Canterbury Anniversary Day commemorates the arrival of the first two boats carrying emigrants from England (the Charlotte Jane and the Randolph) on December 16, 1850.
The date was moved to the second Friday after the first Tuesday of November between 1955 and 1958 to coincide with Christchurch Show Day.
