Army Day commemorates the revolution against Vicente Cerna in 1871. Vicente Cerna was the President of Guatemala from 1865 to 1871, and he was considered a dictator by many Guatemalans. There were several uprisings during his presidency, and eventually, a revolution took place in 1871.
Generals Miguel Garcia Granados and Justo Rufino Barrios triumphantly entered the capital of Guatemala on June 30, 1871, which made Vicente Cerna resign from the presidency.
