How to Add Page Numbers to a Word Document

You can add page numbers anywhere you want in a Word document such as the header, the footer, the margin, or the contents area. However, we normally add page numbers in the header or footer. Please see below for details to add page numbers to every page, or check how to add page numbers only on even or odd pages:

Step 1: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 3: From the drop-down list, select one of the page number location options: Top of Page, Bottom of Page, Page Margins, or the current cursor position, then select one style from the list.

Step 4: If you add the page numbers in the header or footer, please double check anywhere in the contents to move the cursor out of the header or footer. After, you can save the file by clicking the "Save" command from the ribbon or using shortcut "Ctrl+S".
