How to Add Page Numbers to Even or Odd Pages in Word

By default, the page numbers will display on every page when you insert page numbers, however, you can customize page numbers only on certain page. For example, you can add page numbers only to Odd pages, or Even pages. Please see the steps below for details:

Step 1: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 2: Click "Page Number" from the "Header&Footer" area;

Step 3: Select the page number location and format from the drop-down list;

Step 4: In the "Design" tab, double click the footer (or header) on any page and click "Different Odd&Even Pages" from the "Options" area;

Step 5: The page numbers display on all Odd pages:

1. If you want the page numbers to display only on Odd pages, click anywhere in the content to move the cursor out of the footer (or header) and finish;

2. If you want the page numbers to display only on Even pages, you need to move the cursor to the footer on any Even page and repeat step 1 to 3 to add pages numbers; then delete the page numbers on Odd pages before moving the cursor out of the footer (or header);

Step 6: Click "Save" button from the ribbon to save the document.
