Holidays in Thailand 2025

There are 19 public holidays in Thailand in 2025, four of which fall on weekends.

New Year's Day
New Year Holiday, celebrated on January 1, 2025, is the first day of the year on the modern Gregorian calendar, and it is one of the most popular holidays in the world.

Makha Bucha Day
Makha Bucha Day, observed on February 12, 2025, celebrates when Buddha's 1,250 disciples spontaneously gathered to listen to his teachings. Makha Bucha Day is a day for people to make merit by doing only good things and not committing any sins.

Chakri Memorial Day
Chakri Memorial Day, observed on April 6, 2025, commemorates the founding and establishment of the Chakri Dynasty in 1782 by King Rama I, who was born on March 20, 1737, and ascended the throne in 1782. Maha Vajiralongkorn is the 10th King of Thailand styled as Rama X.

Songkran
Songkran, observed on April 13, 2025, is the traditional Thai New Year and one of Thailand's most important festivals. Songkran means "movement" in Sanskrit, a classical language of South Asia, and it derives from the sun's movement from one position to another.

Coronation Day
Coronation Day, observed on May 4, 2025, celebrates the anniversary of the coronation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, the current and also the 10th King of Thailand. He was born on July 28, 1952, and was expected to ascend to the throne after his father's death on October 13, 2016. He asked for time to mourn, and the coronation occurred on May 4, 2019.

Royal Ploughing Ceremony
Royal Ploughing Ceremony, observed on May 9, 2025, marks the traditional start of the rice-growing season. In Thailand, the ceremony is usually presided by the King and the Queen and takes place at Sanam Luang near the Grand Palace in Bangkok.

Visakha Bucha
Visakha Bucha, observed on May 11, 2025, commemorates the birth of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who was the Gautama Buddha later, and he was the founder of Buddhism. Buddhism is the world's fourth-largest religion, with over 520 million followers.

Queen Suthida's Birthday
Queen Suthida's Birthday, observed on June 3, 2025, celebrates the birthday of the current Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana, who was born on June 3, 1978. Suthida was once a flight attendant for JALways Airlines and Thai Airways.

Asalha Puja
Asalha Puja, observed on July 10, 2025, is one of the most important festivals for Theravada Buddhism, and it marks the beginning of Buddhism and commemorates the Buddha's first sermon.

Buddhist Lent Day
Buddhist Lent Day, observed on July 11, 2025, marks the start of the three months of Vassa, when monks are required to remain in a particular monastery or temple grounds, usually from July to October. It coincides with the rainy season, and traditionally the monks are not allowed to stay overnight in other places. They will study, meditate or teach other young monks during this time.

King Vajiralongkorn's Birthday
King Vajiralongkorn's Birthday, observed on July 28, 2025, celebrates the birth anniversary of Vajiralongkorn, the current and the 10th King of Thailand. He was born on July 28, 1952, and was made crown prince at 20 in 1972.

The Queen Mother's Birthday
The Queen Mother's Birthday is a public holiday in Thailand, observed on August 12, 2025. The holiday celebrates the birth anniversary of Queen Sirikit, born on August 12, 1932. She is the mother of the current King Vajiralongkorn.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej Memorial Day
King Bhumibol Adulyadej Memorial Day, observed on October 13, 2025, commemorates the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, born on December 5, 1927, and died on October 13, 2016. King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the 9th King of Thailand and the father of King Vajiralongkorn.

King Chulalongkorn Day
King Chulalongkorn Day is a public holiday in Thailand on October 23, 2025. The holiday commemorates the death of King Chulalongkorn, also known as Rama V, who was born on September 20, 1853, and ascended the throne at 15 in 1868.

King Bhumibol's Birthday
King Bhumibol's Birthday, observed on December 5, 2025, celebrates the birth anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, born on December 5, 1927, and died on October 13, 2016. King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the 9th King of Thailand and the father of King Vajiralongkorn.

Constitution Day
Constitution Day is a public holiday in Thailand, observed on December 10, 2025. The holiday commemorates the country's first permanent constitution, signed by King Prajadhipok (Rama VII) on December 10, 1932.
