Whit Monday

Whit Monday, also known as Pentecost Monday, is an important religious festival celebrated by Christians, and it is celebrated on the day after Pentecost, which is the 50th day after Easter Sunday (or 49 days after Easter Sunday).

Whit Monday is a public holiday in many countries and gets its name from Whit Sunday, which is related to the white garments formerly worn by those newly baptized on this feast.

Many Eastern Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar to calculate their celebrations. Because the 50th day after Easter in the Julian calendar corresponds to a day later in the Gregorian calendar, East Orthodox churches will usually have Whit Monday after the Western Observation.
