Vodoun Festival (Benin)

Vodoun Festival, also known as Traditional Day or Fête du Vodoun, is a public holiday in Benin, and it is observed on January 10 each year.

Vodoun Festival is celebrated throughout the country, especially in the city of Ouidah, known as its birthplace. Vodoun Festival began with sacrificing a goat in honor of the spirits, which traditionally served as a way to receive the blessings of the ancestors.

The festival attracts thousands of devotees and tourists to Ouidah, filled with singing, dancing, and the imbibing of liquor. Vodoun was declared a religion in Benin in 1996, and about 12% of the population of Benin practices the Vodoun religion.
