Feast of St. Anthony of Padua

The Feast of St. Anthony of Padua is a Christian holiday celebrated in many places and it is observed on Jun 13 each year. The holiday commemorates the date when St. Anthony of Padua died on June 13, 1231, at the age of 35.

Anthony was born and raised in a wealthy family in Lisbon, Portugal. Following his ordination to the priesthood, he was named guest-master and was responsible for the abbey's hospitality. He was later attracted by Franciscan friars and asked to leave Abbey for Morocco to spread God's truth.

He became seriously sick on his way to Morocco and was forced to return to Portugal. However, the ship was blown off course and landed in Sicily instead. After he recovered from the illness, he was assigned to the rural hermitage of San Paolo near Forli, and he showed his profound theological knowledge when he was asked to preach without preparation, which led to his following preaching and teaching career at Bologna, Montpellier, and Toulouse. He gained great admiration as a preacher for his eloquent and compelling preaching.

Anthony became sick and died on June 13, 1231. On January 16, 1946, Pope Pius XII officially declared St. Anthony a Doctor of the Church.
