State Day (Sikkim)

State Day is a regional holiday in the state of Sikkim, India, and it is observed on May 16 each year.

Following the Indo-Sikkimese Treaty, Sikkim became a protectorate of India in 1950, and India is responsible for the external relations and strategic communications of Sikkim. On May 16, 1975, Sikkim became the 22^nd state of the Union of India.
