How to Show Only Unread Messages in Outlook

You will see the number of unread messages from the number right after the folder, however, when you open the folder, you will see that all read and unread messages are mixed. Please see the steps below to show only unread messages.

1. To Show Only Unread Messages in all Folders

Step 1: Open your email account;

Step 2: Right click "Search Folders" from the left folder list, and click "New Search Folder";

Step 3: Click "Unread mail" in the new window and click "OK" at the bottom.

Step 4: All unread messages will be now in the "Unread Mail" folder.

2. To Show Only Unread Messages in One Folder

Very similar to filter messages only in today or yesterday, you can filter the unread messages in a folder with the steps below:

Step 1: Click the folder you want to show unread messages, e.g., "Inbox" folder;

Step 2: In the "Home" tab, click "Filter Email";

Step 3: Move the mouse cursor to "Unread" from the drop-down list;

Step 4: All unread messages in the folder will be listed. In the search box, you will see the syntax "strong>isread:no".

Note: If you want only read messages, please use the syntax "isread:yes" in the search box.
