How to Protect Sheet or Data Range in Google Sheets

If your spreadsheet contains the final information that you do not want anyone else to change, you can protect the range or sheet so that no one can change them. Please see below how to protect a data range or a sheet.

Step 1: Click the data range to protect;

Step 2: Click the "Data" tab from the ribbon;

Step 3: Click "Protect Sheets and Ranges" from the drop-down list;

Step 4: In the protection panel on the right, type the description for reference, select the "Range" and click the "Set Permissions" button;

You can also protect the sheet when clicking the "Sheet" tab.

Step 5: Set up the permissions in the new dialog box:

– Show a warning message when editing this range;

– Restrict who can edit the range.

Step 6: A message will display when you try to edit if you set up to show a warning message when editing.

You can also set up the restriction only you to edit the data range.
