Our Lady of Africa

Our Lady of Africa is a regional holiday celebrated in the autonomous city of Ceuta, Spain and it is observed on August 5 each year.

Our Lady of Africa celebrates the patron saint of Ceuta, the Virgin Mary. It is an image of Mary with the dead body of Christ in her arms. The image was sent by Henry the Navigator in 1421 as the guide of building the first church in Africa, and it is now venerated in the Church of Our Lady of Africa in Ceuta.

Ceuta is a Spanish autonomous city on the north coast of Africa and it is bordered by Morocco, and the Statute of Autonomy was granted to both Ceuta and Melilla on March 14, 1995.
