Onam is a harvest festival celebrated in the state of Kerala, India. According to the Malayalam calendar, the festival falls on the 22nd Nakshatra Thiruvonam in the month Chingam, which generally falls from August to September in the Gregorian calendar.
Onam marks the beginning of the Malayalam year, and it is a 10-day festival. Onam starts from Atham, the first day of Onam and ends on Thiruvonam, which is also the most important day of Onam celebrations.
The days of the festival celebrations are Atham, Chithira, Chodi, Vishakam, Anizham, Thriketa, Moolam, Pooradam, Uthradom (or First Onam) and Thiruvonam.
