NRM Liberation Day is a public holiday in Uganda, observed on January 26 each year.
NRM Liberation Day celebrates when National Resistance Movement (NRM) overthrew a corrupt government in 1986. Uganda People's Congress (UPC) party led by Milton Obote won the 1980 election. However, the election was widely believed to have been rigged. As a result, some opposition launched armed rebellions against Milton Obote's government.
National Resistance Movement (NRM) was formed by Yoweri Museveni in 1980, which waged a guerrilla war against Obote's regime, and forced Milton Obote out of office. Yoweri Museveni declared himself president of Uganda.
