May Day (Australia)

May Day, also known as Workers' Day or International Workers' Day, is a public holiday in many regions. May Day is observed on May 1 in most countries, however, it is observed on the 1st Monday in May in Northern Territory, Australia.

May Day is to commemorate the Haymarket affair in Chicago. A strike promoting an eight-hour working day took place at Haymarket Square in Chicago from May 1 to 4, 1886. It was a peaceful rally at the beginning, however, on May 4, 1886, an bomb was exploded near the Haymarket Square when police arrived to break up the rally. Many police officers and protesters were killed by the blast.

The Haymarket Affair is usually considered as the origin of the International Workers' Day.The following is the list of May Day in Northern Territory, Australia from 2021 to 2025.
