Makha Bucha Day, also known as Māgha Pūjā, is one of the most important Buddhist festivals, and it is observed on the full moon day of the 3rd lunar month in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Sri Lanka and on the full moon day of Tabaung in Myanmar.
The third month in the traditional Indian lunar calendar is Magha, the holiday's name.
Makha Bucha Day celebrates when Buddha's 1,250 disciples spontaneously gathered to listen to his teachings. Makha Bucha Day is a day for people to make merit by doing only good things and not committing any sins.
In Thailand, the sale of alcohol has been strictly prohibited since 2015 during the holiday.
