Losar is also known as Tibetan New Year, and it is observed on the first day of the lunisolar Tibetan calendar, which usually falls on a date in February or March in the Gregorian calendar.
The word "losar" is composed of two characters: "lo" and "sar", where "Lo" means "year" and "sar" means "new". Losar celebrations normally last 3 days. People perform dancing, singing and merrymaking during the festival in celebration of the new year.
