Liberation Day (Jersey)

Liberation Day is a public holiday in Jersey, and it is observed on May 9 each year. The holiday marks the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II in 1945. Jersey is an island and self-governing British Crown Dependency near the coast of northwest France.

Jersey has its own financial, legal, and judicial systems, but the United Kingdom is responsible for the defense of Jersey.

The island has been an internally self-governing territory of the British crown since the 13th century. French tried to capture the island several times but did not succeed. During World War II, Jersey was occupied by Germany on July 1, 1940, and it was liberated on May 9, 1945, when Germany unconditionally surrendered.
