Liberation Day Daman and Diu is a regional holiday in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, India, and it is observed on December 19 each year.
Daman and Diu are located on the Arabian Sea coast and were part of the Portuguese State of India for 451 years. In December 1961, the Indian Armed Forces carried out armed action and ended Portugal's rule over these places. On December 19, 1961, Goa, Daman and Diu were incorporated into the Republic of India, and on May 30, 1987, the territory of Goa was granted statehood.
