Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day celebrates the birthday of Kwame Nkrumah, who was one of the founders of the political party of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), and made important contributions to the independence of modern Ghana. He was one of the members of "The Big Six" who found and led UGCC in 1947 and were known as the Founding Fathers of Ghana.
Kwame Nkrumah was born on September 21, 1909, and became the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana when Ghana declared independence from the British colonial rule on Mar 6, 1957.
