Letsie III was born on July 17, 1963, and became the King of Lesotho after his father was exiled in 1990. His father was restored in 1995 but died in a car accident in 1996, and Letsie III became the King again. His coronation took place on October 31, 1997, at Setsoto Stadium. Most of his duties in Lesotho are ceremonial as a constitutional monarch.
