King Chulalongkorn Day is a public holiday in Thailand on October 23 yearly. The holiday commemorates the death of King Chulalongkorn, also known as Rama V, who was born on September 20, 1853, and ascended the throne at 15 in 1868.
King Chulalongkorn was an enthusiastic reformer, and he was known as the country's modernizing monarch. His best-known achievement is the abolition of slavery. He was also credited with many social and political reforms, including creating an administrative hierarchical system composed of provinces and districts and switching to the Gregorian calendar, etc.
