How to Insert Word File Date First Created and Last Saved

When you work with a word document, you might be curious about the information such as when the file was first created, when it was last saved or printed. Actually, the information is part of the file property and you can insert them into your word file. Please see below for details.

Step 1: Click anywhere you want to insert the date or time (e.g., header or footer);

Step 2: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 3: Click "Quick Parts", then click "Field" from the drop-down list;

Step 4: In the Categories box, select "Date and Time";

Step 5: Select "CreateDate" and select a format in the second box, then click "OK" to insert the date of the file first created;

Step 6: Repeat step 5 to add the date of the file that was last saved (SaveDate) or the date that was last printed (PrintDate), or check how to add today's date;

Please note that if you never print or save the file before, the data will show as "0/0/0000 0:00:00 AM"

Step 7: After adding the dates, you can always change the format with the two steps below:

1. Right-click on the data and click "Edit field" from the dialog box;

2. Select your favorite date format and click "OK" to finish up.
