How to Insert the Number Pi (π) in word

The number Pi (π) is a mathematical constant, which is approximately equal to 3.14159. In many math related word files, you will need to insert the number of Pi in the format of π. Similar to insert the "almost equal to" sign in the word file, there a couple of ways you can insert "π" into a word file, please see below for details:

The first and easiest way is to google "Pi", which is everywhere on the internet. You can copy and paste one to the word file. The only requirement for this method is to have the network available.

If you do not like the first method, you can use the method similar to insert an equation in word as below:

Step 1: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 2: Click "Equation" in the "Symbols" section;

Step 3: In the "Design" tab from the ribbon, click the triangle in the Symbols section;

Step 4: The number "π" will appear in the list of symbols. Click to insert "π" into the word file.

Alternatively, you can insert the number "π" as a special character which is very similar to insert a circled number or the check mark in the word file.

Step 1: Click the "Insert" tab from the ribbon;

Step 2: click "Symbol" in the "Symbols" section, then click "More symbols" from the drop-down list;

Step 3: Select "Symbol" in the "Font" box, and move the scroll bar down a bit, you will see the number "π" in the table;

Step 4: Select and click "Insert", then click "Close" to finish.
