Independence Day (Philippines)

Independence Day in the Philippines is a regular holiday, and is observed on June 12 each year. Independence Day is to commemorate the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898.

In 1898, Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed June 12, 1898 as the day of independence, and the Philippine flag was raised the fist time. However, the Philippines' independence did not gain the international recognition till July 4, 1946, when the United States of America granted full independence to the Philippines.

In the following years, the Philippines celebrated the Independence Day on July 4 , the same day as the Independence Day in the United Day. In 1962, President Diosdado Macapagal issued Presidential Proclamation claiming June 12 as Independence Day to commemorate the declaration in 1898.
