How to Average Numbers in Excel

Calculating the average is one of the most common calculations when working with Excel. There are a number of ways to get the average of numbers. You can use a formula to calculate the average if you prefer using formulas, or you can use the command below to calculate the average.

Step 1: Select the data range;

Step 2: Click the "Home" tab from the ribbon;

Step 3: In the Editing section, click the triangle after the "AutoSum";

Step 4: Select "Average" from the drop-down list;

Step 5: The average will appear at the bottom of the column. In this example, the average of the number for 2,3,4,5,6 is 4.
